Another year, another record-breaking Confident Futures Skills Show! June saw the best of Buckinghamshire’s disability-confident employers, training providers and support organisations take over Stoke Mandeville Stadium to engage over 500 SEND students from 20 schools around career opportunities. It was amazing to see so many students get stuck into the interactive exhibits, which featured bricklaying workshops, VR experiences, medical simulators, photo booths and more.

Was this the best Confident Futures Skills Show yet?
De Soutter, EKFB, Buckinghamshire New University and Lightfoots Solicitors were among the lineup of 50 exhibitors on hand to answer visitors’ questions.
As well as providing opportunities to network, this year’s show placed a special emphasis on supported internships, highlighting the benefits of the career path for young people with SEND. In addition to informational sessions throughout the day for visitors, a dedicated lunchtime workshop for employers brought together a panel of local businesses to share real-life success stories and practical advice on creating more inclusive workplaces.
“My son and I found the skills show very useful. It can be hard to uncover opportunities for children and young adults with additional needs, but the skills show brought together a variety of employers and educational facilities in one room. My son now has more options to think about and I’m really encouraged about the potential of supported internships for him. Thank you to the team for this excellent event.”
