NHS Opportunities for Careers Leads & Teaching Staff

Book in a ‘Developing yourself outside the classroom’ workshop for Year 12s

  • This term we have started to offer out a new ‘Developing yourself outside the classroom’ one-hour interactive workshop to Year 12s, covering work experience, volunteering, part-time employment, extra and super curricular activities. We use the NHS (our Trust) as an example, but make it applicable to students thinking about different sectors.

  • It primarily supports the new UCAS personal statement question 3: ‘What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?’ But it is equally useful to students thinking of applying for an apprenticeship or a job straight from school.

  • We can also run it as a shorter (minimum 20-minute) assembly, but the full hour enables them to start developing their own personal action plan.

  • Book us in: email bht.brightfutures@nhs.net with some suggested dates and times.

Clinical Psychology virtual career drop-ins

  • We always have significant interest from students interested in a career in Clinical Psychology. As there aren’t enough work experience placements to meet demand, the Clinical Psychology team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust offer virtual career drop-ins to give students from Years 11 – 13 the opportunity to meet informally and put questions to them (teachers also welcome). The next dates scheduled are:

    • Autumn term 2025: Wednesday 12 November, 4.30 – 5.30pm

    • Spring term 2026: Wednesday 25 February, 4.30 – 5.30pm

    • Summer term 2026: Wednesday 20 May, 4.30 – 5.30pm

  • How to register interest: Please share with teachers of psychology and heads of Year 11/sixth form and ask them to get interested students to email bht.brightfutures@nhs.net. We’ll then send an invitation to join on MS Teams.

‘Discover careers’ after-school talks programme for 2025-26: please circulate the flyer attached to curriculum leads and heads of years

  • See ‘book tickets for after-school talks’ at careers.buckshealthcare.nhs.uk/bright-futures/ and the programme attached.

  • Tickets are released a few months in advance: currently booking for Allied Health Professions on Thursday 4 December and Pharmacy on Thursday 12 February

  • Group bookings: schools are welcome to bring a minibus and organise centrally. Contact bht.brightfutures@nhs.net direct to arrange.
