Sixth form students interested in healthcare careers are invited to attend Unravelling the Helix: How Genomics is Revolutionising Healthcare, a free webinar hosted by Central and South Genomics on 6 October 2026.

Genomics is playing an increasingly important role across the NHS, helping healthcare professionals personalise treatments, prevent disease and improve patient outcomes. This online session will introduce students to the growing field of genomic medicine and explore how it is being used by a wide range of healthcare professionals, including scientists, midwives, nurses, pharmacists and doctors.

The webinar is designed to support students considering careers in healthcare by enhancing their understanding of a rapidly evolving area of medicine. It can also help students prepare for interviews and strengthen UCAS personal statements.

Topics covered will include:

  • What genomics and genetics are, and how they are used to diagnose and treat disease

  • The role of family history in healthcare

  • The Generation Study and the use of whole genome sequencing to identify treatable genetic conditions at birth

  • Genomic research
